This Privacy Policy explains how Waycast (“Waycast”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares information when you use our website at way-cast.com and our mobile app (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.
No GPS or live location tracking
Waycast never uses GPS or continuous location tracking. We do not follow your device in real time. You tell us a route and schedule once; we check the forecast along that route at the times you expect to be there. The origins, destinations and stops you save are trip inputs you provide — not observed movements.
Information we collect
- Account information.When you sign up we collect your email address and, if you use “Continue with Google”, basic profile details from your Google account. Authentication is handled by Supabase.
- Trip data. The routes, addresses, schedules, travel modes and alert preferences you save so we can generate briefings.
- Billing information. If you subscribe to Pro, payment is processed by Stripe (web) or Apple / RevenueCat (iOS). We receive subscription status but never see or store your full card details.
- Technical data. Standard server logs (such as IP address, device and browser type, and timestamps) used to operate and secure the Service.
How we use your information
- To route your trips and sample the forecast along them at the right times.
- To send the weather briefings and alerts you asked for, before departure.
- To create and secure your account and manage your subscription.
- To operate, maintain, debug and improve the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Third-party services
To deliver briefings we share the minimum data needed with providers who process it on our behalf:
- Open-Meteo — forecast data for the points along your route.
- Google Routes / Places — to resolve addresses and route each leg of a trip.
- Government CAP alert feeds — official severe-weather warnings.
- AI briefing model — turns the raw forecast numbers into a short, readable briefing. Route coordinates and forecast values are sent for this purpose; your identity is not.
- Supabase (authentication and database), Stripe and RevenueCat (billing), and our cloud hosting provider.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Data retention
We keep your account and trip data for as long as your account is active. When you delete a trip it is removed from your account; when you delete your account we delete your personal data, except where we are required to retain limited records (for example, billing history) to meet legal obligations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage most of your data from your profile, or contact us at [email protected] to make a request.
Security
We use industry-standard measures — encryption in transit, access controls and reputable infrastructure providers — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice.
